Welcome to Orthodontics Only in Compton

Having a healthy and attractive smile is life changing. From a reduced risk of cavities and gum disease to increased confidence, improving your smile is improving your quality of life. And if you are in Compton, you can get the best possible treatment from Orthodontics Only.

Here at Orthodontics Only, we offer treatment that is high-quality, innovative, and rendered in a way that is fun and comfortable for our patients. With us, the patient and even their family are an active part of the process. All treatments are tailored to the wants and needs of our clients.

Treating Patients of All Ages

Children first become eligible for orthodontic treatment once they have a mix of baby and adult teeth; this is usually around age seven. From there, we do not have a limit on patient age. From seven to 70, and even beyond, we can help people achieve the kind of smile that makes them feel happy and live well.

Treatment That Works for You

Two patients can have identical orthodontic issues, but they will not necessarily be given the same treatment. That is because we tailor our care to the wants and needs of each patient we work with. We take into account their dental anatomy, treatment preferences, and even their profession when selecting appliances and other methods of care.

Our team also thinks about your budget when crafting a treatment plan. With options for discounts, flexible payment plans, and insurance billing, we can make treatment fit your budget.

If you are looking for orthodontic care in Compton, opt for the best with Orthodontics Only.

We have never met anyone who didn’t want a healthy smile. However, we have known many who did not want braces. Great at straightening teeth and crafting smiles, braces tend to be lacking in the looks department, especially for older patients.

For patients who need to correct their smile but do not like the look of braces, we offer Invisalign. With it, clear plastic aligners replace braces in function. If you wish your teeth were better aligned but are not open to wearing braces, Invisalign could be the ideal solution for you.

How Does Invisalign Work? +

The way Invisalign works is similar to the way braces work: force is placed on the teeth to move them into place. But while braces accomplish this through brackets and archwires, Invisalign does this using clear plastic aligners. These aligners are shaped to place pressure on specific teeth, getting them moving. Each aligner is different and the patient switches sets every two weeks, moving the teeth further along. By the time treatment is complete, the teeth will be in their ideal position and retainers will be worn to keep them there.

How Is Invisalign Made? +

Every Invisalign aligner is made specifically for the patient who wears it. The process begins with a 3D scan of the dental anatomy, completed using a non-invasive wand. The scan is then uploaded into the Invisalign software program. The current position of the teeth is the starting point and the ideal position the end. Based on these two points, a series of steps are generated, getting the teeth from position A to position B. Each step then becomes an aligner.

What Makes Invisalign Great? +

The most obvious reason people love Invisalign is that it allows them to correct problems with their teeth without sporting braces. However, Invisalign offers much more than an aesthetic way to correct your smile. Other reasons patients love using Invisalign include:

  • Plastic aligners cause less irritation than braces
  • Treatment is often faster than with braces
  • Aligners have no negative impact on speech
  • You can remove them to eat, drink, brush, and floss
  • Adjustments just mean swapping out aligners at home, so you see us less

iCat FLX 3D Cone Beam

Orthodontic treatment isn’t something done on a whim. For both the patient and the treatment team, it takes a lot of careful planning. For the doctor, planning starts with diagnostics. In the past, many of the diagnostics used in orthodontic treatment were invasive and uncomfortable. To make it worse, they were also often inaccurate.

At Orthodontics Only in Compton, we avoid uncomfortable and inaccurate diagnostics by utilizing technological innovations. One item we use is the iCat FLX 3D cone beam.

This cone beam is added to our intraoral digital scanner, allowing us to capture sharp images of all the dental anatomy, from the teeth to the bones. The images it produces are in 3D, which allows us to assess potential treatment methods from all perspectives. In turn, this allows us to deliver the most accurate treatment possible.

With the use of the iCat FLX, our team is at the forefront of the industry, embracing the latest generation in orthodontic technology. With it, we can diagnose problems minor and severe, even life-threatening conditions such as restricted airways. When you choose Orthodontics Only, you can rest assured you are getting the best possible treatment.

Braces Basics

So, you need to improve your smile through orthodontics. As soon as you realized this, you probably began imagining yourself with braces. But if the image in your head includes shiny silver braces, know that you do have another options. Here are just a few choices you may have when you begin treatment.

  • Traditional Metal Braces

Those shiny silver braces you pictured? We call them traditional metal braces. These braces have brackets, wires, and ties, but they are smaller and better made than braces of the past. This also translates into a less-obvious look, which is best for many patients.

  • Damon Braces

Damon braces are similar to traditional metal braces, but with a few important changes. First, they do not require ties. Second, the brackets are smaller and less visible. Third, they are more effective. Treatment tends to go faster than with traditional braces and patients love the results.

  • Damon Clear

Damon braces are less visible than traditional braces because they are smaller. However, they are still metal, so they don’t work for everyone. As an alternative, patients can opt for Damon Clear, which has brackets that blend in with the teeth.

  • Incognito

Not all braces go on the front of the teeth. Lingual braces go on the tongue side of the teeth. These braces are custom made for each patient and require a unique approach to placement. We offer the Incognito brand of lingual braces.

  • Gold Braces

Some patients love the look of traditional braces save for the silver color. This is no problem here at Orthodontics Only. We offer gold braces, which look elegant and are great on people with warm skin tones.

  • Invisalign

Finally, we offer a braces alternative called Invisalign. This system corrects the position of the teeth using clear plastic aligners. These are invisible when worn and just as effective as braces when correcting mild to moderate alignment problems.

Children’s Orthodontic Treatment

The typical orthodontic patient is between the ages of 12 and 18 years old. However, patients can start treatment at both older and younger ages. When children begin treatment at a younger age, we call it early intervention or two-phase treatment.

Early intervention is only used in cases where children present with significant orthodontic abnormalities that, if not addressed early on, will require painful and invasive measures to address. To catch these problems at the right age, all children should see an orthodontist right around their seventh birthday.

Why Age Seven? +

While you might know seven to be a lucky number, that is not why we suggest all children be seen at this age. Instead, it is because at this age, children will already have some adult teeth, giving us a better idea of what their tooth alignment will look like once all their permanent teeth are in place. At the same time, the patient will still have a lot of growing to do, and we can harness that growth to get maximum results with appliances alone—no surgeries or tooth extractions needed.

Why Is Early Treatment Important? +

Essentially, early treatment is important because the children who need it will face uncomfortable and even painful treatment if they do not receive it. Things like jaw surgery, tooth extraction, and even headgear are not things anyone looks forward to. Early treatment allows severe problems to be corrected with appliances like braces and expanders, giving the patient great results plus a better experience.

What Early Treatment Can Accomplish +

  • Guide jaw growth
  • Reduce risk of trauma from protruding teeth
  • Correct poor oral habits
  • Improve facial balance
  • Correct crossbites
  • Guide placement of permanent teeth
  • Make it easier to clean teeth

Early Treatment Appliances

  • Rapid Palatal Expander: An appliance that can widen both the upper and lower arches.
  • Removable Dentofacial-Orthopedic Appliances: This includes bionators, functional appliance, neck gear, head gear, and reverse pull headgear.
  • Lingual Arch: A space maintainer on the lower teeth.
  • Braces: The traditional form of treatment.
  • Invisalign: Used as a braces alternative when suitable.

If your child has reached age seven, now is the time to find out if they require treatment. Contact us to schedule a consultation.

Adult Orthodontic Treatment

It is not uncommon for adults in Compton to look at their smile and wish they could change it. Some of these people were unable to get the care they needed when they were younger, others had their problems develop later on, and others still got treatment as teens but did not wear their retainers, resulting in the need for repeated treatment. No matter why an adult needs treatment, we can offer it here at Orthodontics Only, where about a fifth of our patients are 21 and older.

Why Are Adults Hesitant to Seek Treatment? +

Every person is different, so there is a lot of variety in why adults might avoid orthodontic treatment. However, there are a few things that pop up pretty often.

  • Adults often think the window of opportunity closes once they leave their teens
  • Adults worry people will judge them for wearing braces
  • Adults think that spending money on their teeth is being indulgent

Despite these concerns being quite common, they are caused by misconceptions. In the end, there is no reason for adults to avoid treatment.

Addressing the Misconceptions +

First, there is no window of opportunity in orthodontics. The “window” is open once a child is about seven years old and it never closes. There are conditions that can complicate or delay the start of treatment, such as gum disease and bone loss. However, they do not prevent treatment from happening.

Now for the issue of people judging adults who have braces. It is possible that having traditional metal braces can be problematic for some adults, especially in professional settings. However, not all braces are visible, and we offer many options to our patients.

Finally, there is the idea that spending money on improving their smile is a luxury. While things like cosmetic dentistry might be considered a luxury—though we think that is debatable—orthodontics is not. Straight teeth are healthy teeth, and improving your health is a necessity, not a luxury. Additionally, here at Orthodontics Only in Compton, we work to make our treatments affordable.

If you want a healthier, more attractive smile, now is the time to get started.

What our Patient’s Say!

Benjamin D

I thought my teeth were not that bad. But after a friend told me that I might need braces because I had gaps in between some of my teeth that never really bothered me because at that time I was only 12 years old. I asked her where she got her braces and she told me she went to Orthodontics Only. At that time, we had no insurance so my parents asked the receptionist if they have financing and how much the interest rate is. She said they have zero percent financing so my parents were glad about this. Now I’m glad I listened to my friend’s advice on getting braces because everybody tells me how beautiful my smile is. Thanks so much Orthodontics Only!

John M.

My classmates used to make fun of my teeth at school because they were crooked and ugly. I was feeling so depressed and I didn’t want to go out anymore. My dad saw an ad on the newspaper for Orthodontics Only and asked me if I would like to go for a consultation. I didn’t have to wait long for the doctor to see me, she was very nice and she explained the procedure to me and made it easy to understand. Now after two years of treatment, my teeth are all straight, my confidence came back and I feel great every time I go out. All thanks to Orthodontics Only and their staff.

I was not happy with my smile a few years ago. I felt embarrassed because I had crooked teeth and I was afraid to smile sometimes. My mom suggested I get braces to correct my smile. She had heard really good things about Orthodontics Only so she decided to take me there. The doctor was very nice and friendly and she explained how my treatment will be. I decided to start my treatment that very same day. My teeth are perfect! I am no longer embarrassed to smile. Thank you Orthodontics Only!
