Treating Patients of All Ages

We train our staff to address to unique needs of all patients, having the technology on hand to address concerns for specific ages. Whether a patient is in their 40s and needs help with battling bone loss before braces or a child who needs their first exam, all patients can access the care they need with us.

Treatments That Work for You

Sometimes, two patients will present with identical orthodontic problems. However, that does not mean their treatment will be the same. We tailor our approach to each patient based on everything from their dental anatomy to their treatment preferences. Our office even works to make treatment fit your budget. With discounts, flexible payments plans, and insurance billing, we find ways to make treatment work for every patient.

If you are in La Brea and looking for a quality orthodontics practice, choose Orthodontics Only.

In many cases, it is aesthetic concerns that drive someone to seek orthodontic care. And up until the invention of Invisalign, it was often also aesthetic concerns that drove patients away. Everyone loves straight, healthy teeth, but not everyone loves the look of braces.

When Invisalign hit the market, it changed the game. Attractive smiles no longer meant metal braces; they could mean clear plastic aligners instead. If you need orthodontic treatment but don’t want to sport braces, it could be right for you.

How Does Invisalign Work? +

Invisalign aligners are made from clear, hard plastic. They look a lot like tooth whitening trays, but their function is different. Instead of just fitting around the teeth, they are shaped to place gentle pressure on specific teeth, getting them to move. No two aligners are the same, so as the patient changes sets every two weeks, the forces on the teeth also change, resulting in progressive movement. Eventually, the teeth reach their final location and are held in place with retainers.

How Is Invisalign Made? +

Invisalign is custom made for every patient. The process starts with a 3D scan of the oral anatomy, including teeth, gums, and bones. This is done using a non-invasive wand, making it much more comfortable than impressions of the past. The scan determines the starting point and the software determines the ideal final position of the teeth. The progress from start to finish is broken up into steps, and each step becomes an aligner.

What Makes Invisalign Great? +

By now, we all know that patients love Invisalign. And we all know a big reason for that love is that it allows them to correct their smile without wearing braces. However, there is a lot more to Invisalign than its looks. Other reasons Invisalign is great include:

  • Aligners are gentler on the soft tissues of the mouth than braces
  • Treatment is speedier than some types of braces
  • Aligners do not negatively impact speech
  • Brushing, flossing, and eating are unchanged since aligners can be removed
  • You make the adjustments yourself by changing aligners, so you see us less often

If all of this sounds pretty great to you, now is the time to find out if you are a candidate for Invisalign treatment. Call today to schedule your appointment.

iCat FLX 3D Cone Beam

Orthodontics requires a significant amount of planning, and planning starts with diagnostics. In the past, many of the diagnostics used for orthodontic treatment were uncomfortable, invasive, and, sadly, inaccurate. Now, we have innovative options that improve both the experience and the results of treatment. One piece of technology we use is the iCat FLX 3D cone beam.

This item is an add-on to our intraoral digital scanner, giving us the ability to capture sharper images of the teeth, gums, and bones. The resulting images are in 3D, giving us the ability to assess treatment options from all perspectives. With these, we can craft a treatment plan that goes beyond straightening the teeth, balancing the facial features and delivering the best possible results.

The iCat FLX is the latest generation of orthodontic technology, which places us at the forefront of the industry. We are able to use it to evaluate minor orthodontic irregularities, such as gaps, to significant problems, like restricted airways. When you make an appointment with Orthodontics Only, you get the latest technology and the best treatment.

Braces Basics

What will you look like with braces? You have no doubt already imagined it, likely picturing big, shiny, silver braces. Well, here at Orthodontics Only, that isn’t a look we offer. Once you find out about our braces options, your vision of your future self is going to change.

  • Traditional Metal Braces

Out of all the options we offer, this one comes the closest to that original vision, but it isn’t quite the same. All the same pieces are there—brackets, wires, ties—but they are smaller, lighter, and more comfortable than before. This also gives them a different look, one that is less obvious and awkward.

  • Damon Braces

These braces are pretty similar to traditional braces, but they have some key differences. First, they have fewer parts. Second, their brackets are smaller. And third, they are more effective. In fact, they are so effective, treatment is finished months faster than with traditional braces.

  • Damon Clear

Because Damon has smaller brackets, they are less visible than traditional braces. However, they are still silver, and still quite visible. Damon Clear has brackets that blend in with the teeth. This results in treatment that is just as effective but much more discreet.

  • Incognito

Did you know that braces do not need to go on the front of the teeth? It is true; we can place them on the tongue side as well. For this, special braces must be used. The option we offer is called Incognito. The braces are custom made for every patient, ensuring incredible results.

  • Gold Braces

Not everyone wants to skip traditional metal braces. However, silver isn’t the best color choice for every patient. If you need warm tones, you can opt for gold braces. These are traditional metal braces with a gold coating, making them an elegant choice.

  • Invisalign

For mild to moderate orthodontic abnormalities, correction is possible with Invisalign. This system moves teeth into their ideal locations using invisible, removable aligners. The result is discreet treatment that is also comfortable and convenient.

Children’s Orthodontic Treatment

Usually, children start treatment right around adolescence. However, there is a minority of child patients who need to start their treatment earlier to avoid more painful and invasive measures later on. This is why our team and many professional associations advocate for parents to have their children see an orthodontist right around their seventh birthday.

Why Age Seven? +

Seven is known to be a lucky number, but that isn’t why we chose this age. It is because at age seven, most children will have a mixture of baby and adult teeth, allowing us to see where significant problems are emerging. At the same time, at age seven, there is a lot of growing left to do, and we can use this bone growth to make significant corrections with simple appliances.

Why Is Early Treatment Important? +

If every child is seen at age seven, only a small percentage will be recommended for early treatment. When this recommendation is made, it must be taken seriously. Ignoring the advice of seeking early treatment makes it all but inevitable that the child will nee painful and invasive measures later on, such as tooth extraction and even jaw surgery. Early treatment is usually completed with braces alone, or braces with expanders. It is significantly better for the patient.

What Early Treatment Can Accomplish +

  • Guide jaw growth
  • Reduce risk of trauma from protruding teeth
  • Correct poor oral habits
  • Improve facial balance
  • Correct crossbites
  • Guide placement of permanent teeth
  • Make it easier to clean teeth

Early Treatment Appliances

  • Rapid Palatal Expander: An appliance that can widen both the upper and lower arches.
  • Removable Dentofacial-Orthopedic Appliances: This includes bionators, functional appliance, neck gear, head gear, and reverse pull headgear.
  • Lingual Arch: A space maintainer on the lower teeth.
  • Braces: The traditional form of treatment.
  • Invisalign: Used as a braces alternative when suitable.

If your child has reached age seven or will do so soon, schedule an appointment.

Adult Orthodontic Treatment

Many adults in La Brea are unhappy with their smiles. Some were unable to correct their teeth as a teen, while others did but their teeth shifted back due to lacking retainer use. The good news is that adults are able to receive orthodontic treatment. In fact, about a fifth of all of our patients are over the age of 21.

Why Are Adults Hesitant to Seek Treatment? +

While there are no doubt many reasons why adults avoid getting orthodontic care, there are three main reasons we see over and over again:

  • They believe there is a window of opportunity and theirs has closed
  • They worry that others will judge them for having braces
  • They think it is a luxury and do not want to spend the money on themselves

While these concerns are common, they are based in misconceptions. There is no reason for adults to avoid treatment.

Addressing the Misconceptions +

There is no window of opportunity in orthodontics. Once some permanent teeth are in, the “window” is open, but it never closes. Gum disease, tooth decay, and bone loss are all things that can complicate treatment, but they do not prevent it. We can address these issues and then move forward with our treatment.

Now, will people judge adult patients for being in treatment? Adult patients with traditional metal braces admittedly can have issues in professional environments. However, we offer options that are less visible, and even invisible, making them well suited for all adult patients with aesthetic concerns. As such, this should not stop treatment.

Finally, there is the issue of cost. Adults often struggle to justify spending money on themselves, especially if they have others to take care of. While treatment isn’t cheap, it is an investment in yourself, one that can benefit you in various arenas of life due to the boost in self-confidence it delivers. And here at Orthodontics Only in La Brea, we work to make it affordable.

What our Patient’s Say!

Benjamin D

I thought my teeth were not that bad. But after a friend told me that I might need braces because I had gaps in between some of my teeth that never really bothered me because at that time I was only 12 years old. I asked her where she got her braces and she told me she went to Orthodontics Only. At that time, we had no insurance so my parents asked the receptionist if they have financing and how much the interest rate is. She said they have zero percent financing so my parents were glad about this. Now I’m glad I listened to my friend’s advice on getting braces because everybody tells me how beautiful my smile is. Thanks so much Orthodontics Only!

My classmates used to make fun of my teeth at school because they were crooked and ugly. I was feeling so depressed and I didn’t want to go out anymore. My dad saw an ad on the newspaper for Orthodontics Only and asked me if I would like to go for a consultation. I didn’t have to wait long for the doctor to see me, she was very nice and she explained the procedure to me and made it easy to understand. Now after two years of treatment, my teeth are all straight, my confidence came back and I feel great every time I go out. All thanks to Orthodontics Only and their staff.

I was not happy with my smile a few years ago. I felt embarrassed because I had crooked teeth and I was afraid to smile sometimes. My mom suggested I get braces to correct my smile. She had heard really good things about Orthodontics Only so she decided to take me there. The doctor was very nice and friendly and she explained how my treatment will be. I decided to start my treatment that very same day. My teeth are perfect! I am no longer embarrassed to smile. Thank you Orthodontics Only!
