About Doctor

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry’s standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

It is a long established fact that a reader will be distracted by the readable content of a page when looking at its layout. The point of using Lorem Ipsum is that it has a more-or-less normal distribution of letters, as opposed to using ‘Content here, content here’, making it look like readable English.

Invisalign

As soon as it hit the scene, Invisalign became the treatment that everyone wants. Once you learn more about it, you will understand why. This revolutionary form of treatment changed the game for orthodontics patients, and you might find that it is the best option for you.

How Does Invisalign Work?

Invisalign utilizes clear plastic aligners in place of metal brackets and wires. These aligners look similar to plastic retainers or tooth whitening trays. However, they are much stronger and are designed not to hold teeth in place, but to move them into their desired locations.

Each aligner is shaped to place pressure on specific teeth. With each aligner switch, the pressure changes. Over the course of treatment, this pressure gets the teeth to where they need to be for a healthier and more attractive smile.

How Is Invisalign Made?

Prior to the start of treatment, a digital scan is taken of your digital anatomy. This scan is pain-free and non-invasive. The scan is then used by Invisalign’s software to plan each step of treatment. Each step of treatment then becomes an aligner or aligner set. Because the plan is made in full before treatment starts, patients can see themselves with the final result before agreeing to move forward.

What Makes Invisalign Great?

For so many people to seek out Invisalign treatment, there has to be something great about it. In fact, there are many things that are wonderful about this form of orthodontic treatment. Here are just a few reasons why patients love Invisalign:

  • It is invisible when worn
  • The aligners are more comfortable than metal braces
  • Treatment is often faster with Invisalign
  • It does not impact speech
  • You can remove it when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing
  • You make adjustments by swapping out aligners, so you see us less

All that sounds pretty great to us. If it also sounds wonderful to you, it is time to find out if you are a candidate for Invisalign treatment. Schedule your consultation today.

iCat FLX 3D Cone Beam

One of the reasons orthodontics has gotten a bad reputation over the years is older diagnostic methods were uncomfortable, invasive, and incomplete. However, our practice has embraced changing technology, and now we no longer need to rely on out of date and incomplete diagnostics. One item that has allowed us to leave things like gluey impressions in the past is the iCat FLX cone beam.

Recently, we added this piece of technology to our intraoral digital scanner. Doing so has allowed us crisper images that take into account the full dental and facial anatomy, not just the teeth. It delivers 3D images that allow for more precise treatment and better end results.

The iCat FLX is the next generation in orthodontic technology. It allows us to evaluate everything from minor conditions, such as slightly crooked teeth, to significant issues, such as restricted airways. When you work with us, you can rest assured that you are receiving the most accurate treatment possible.

Braces Basics

The word “braces” tends to conjure up a specific image: an awkward teen sporting giant brackets, shiny wires, and colorful ligature ties. In the past, that is all that braces were. Now, there are lots of options on the market, giving patients the chance to find the system that best suits their needs. Here are the braces we offer at Orthodontics Only in Hawthorne.

  • Traditional Metal Braces

Are these the braces you picture in your head? Kind of. While they are made of that shiny metal we associate with braces, they are not as large as they used to be. Now, brackets are smaller and the entire appliance is lighter in weight. These braces are the cheapest form of treatment and are highly effective.

  • Damon Braces

Damon braces are similar to traditional braces, but more streamlined. As a result, they are less visible and more comfortable. These braces do not require ties, so there are fewer elements to Damon braces. They also cause less friction, making them more comfortable to wear.

  • Damon Clear

If the idea of Damon braces sounds good, but you still feel they are not discreet enough, you can opt for Damon Clear. These braces use clear brackets that blend in with the teeth. As a result, they are more difficult for others to see, but they still offer the quality results of the original system.

  • Incognito

Have you ever wondered why braces have to be placed on the fronts of the teeth? Actually, they don’t. Braces that go on the tongue side of the teeth are called lingual braces, and the version we carry is called Incognito. These braces are made just for you, giving an incredible fit and even better results.

  • Gold Braces

For some patients, the look of braces isn’t exactly a problem, but they wish there were other color options. If silver isn’t your thing, why not give gold a shot? Gold braces are essentially traditional metal braces with a gold coating. It gives them a certain fun flare that can be quite elegant.

  • Invisalign

Invisalign is an invisible form of treatment that accomplishes the same results as braces, but without using braces at all. Instead, it uses clear aligners that fit perfectly against the teeth, applying pressure exactly where it is needed. Treatment is quick and comfortable, making it a popular option.

To learn more about these options and to determine which is right for you, schedule a consultation.

Children’s Orthodontic Treatment

While we tend to think of orthodontic treatment as starting around age 12, some patients can benefit from earlier treatment. As such, we recommend that all children see an orthodontist on or around their seventh birthday. Doing so can help prevent significant struggles later in life.

Why Age Seven?

Seven isn’t just a lucky number—it also happens to be the age at which children have enough permanent teeth to allow orthodontists to spot significant issues. At the same time, their bones still have a lot of growing to do, which means the doctor can use this growth to accomplish a significant amount of correction. Being seen at age seven gives doctors the best window of opportunity for correcting major orthodontic problems.

Why Early Treatment Matters

The vast majority of children seen at age seven will not need early treatment. However, a few will. When early treatment is suggested, it is because waiting until the child is older could mean requiring surgeries, tooth extraction, or head gear—all of which are things most patients would prefer to avoid. Early intervention is cheaper, more comfortable, and less painful than other methods, so if it is suggested, it is vital for it to happen.

What Early Treatment Can Accomplish

  • Guide jaw growth
  • Reduce risk of trauma from protruding teeth
  • Correct poor oral habits
  • Improve facial balance
  • Correct crossbites
  • Guide placement of permanent teeth
  • Make it easier to clean teeth

Early Treatment Appliances

  • Rapid Palatal Expander: An appliance that can widen both the upper and lower arches.
  • Removable Dentofacial-Orthopedic Appliances: This includes bionators, functional appliance, neck gear, head gear, and reverse pull headgear.
  • Lingual Arch: A space maintainer on the lower teeth.
  • Braces: The traditional form of treatment.
  • Invisalign: Used as a braces alternative when suitable.

To find out if your child requires early treatment, schedule a consultation.

Adult Orthodontic Treatment

Many adults with orthodontic problems assume that they have passed the age for treatment. However, this is not true. About a fifth of all orthodontic patients are over the age of 21, with more and more adults seeking treatment every day.

What Stops Adults From Seeking Treatment?

There are generally three reasons adults do not seek treatment: they think they missed their chance, they worry about the look of braces, and they assume treatment is too expensive. As it ends up, adults do not need to fret over any of this. There is no reason for those over the age of 21 to skip orthodontic treatment.

Addressing the Misconceptions

Adults are eligible for orthodontic treatment as long as their gums and bones are healthy. Even if they aren’t, orthodontists and dentists can work with the patient to improve their oral health so they can start treatment. This means you cannot be too old for treatment. But what about the look of braces? In the United States, it is not common for adults to sport traditional metal braces. However, that is because they do not have to. There are many alternatives on the market that are less visible or even invisible. Do not let the look of braces stop you.

Then there is cost. Orthodontic care has a reputation for being expensive. While it isn’t cheap, it doesn’t have to break the bank. There are numerous ways to make it affordable, from using insurance coverage to opting for flexible payment plans. If you need treatment, it can be accessible.

What our Patient’s Say!

Benjamin D

I thought my teeth were not that bad. But after a friend told me that I might need braces because I had gaps in between some of my teeth that never really bothered me because at that time I was only 12 years old. I asked her where she got her braces and she told me she went to Orthodontics Only. At that time, we had no insurance so my parents asked the receptionist if they have financing and how much the interest rate is. She said they have zero percent financing so my parents were glad about this. Now I’m glad I listened to my friend’s advice on getting braces because everybody tells me how beautiful my smile is. Thanks so much Orthodontics Only!

John M.

My classmates used to make fun of my teeth at school because they were crooked and ugly. I was feeling so depressed and I didn’t want to go out anymore. My dad saw an ad on the newspaper for Orthodontics Only and asked me if I would like to go for a consultation. I didn’t have to wait long for the doctor to see me, she was very nice and she explained the procedure to me and made it easy to understand. Now after two years of treatment, my teeth are all straight, my confidence came back and I feel great every time I go out. All thanks to Orthodontics Only and their staff.

David S

I was not happy with my smile a few years ago. I felt embarrassed because I had crooked teeth and I was afraid to smile sometimes. My mom suggested I get braces to correct my smile. She had heard really good things about Orthodontics Only so she decided to take me there. The doctor was very nice and friendly and she explained how my treatment will be. I decided to start my treatment that very same day. My teeth are perfect! I am no longer embarrassed to smile. Thank you Orthodontics Only!
